However, I forced my family to allow me to proceed outside the state for a Master’s degree despite all these restrictions. It was an uphill task for me to convince my parents, but with great efforts and due to their support, I was able to get admission in Dehradun. Staying in a different city, I felt isolated as no one was known there. I used to think of having a video conference with my family, but due to the lack of Internet speed at my hometown, the video call buffered and I was unable to watch them live. At that time, there was a slight improvement in the communication field as 3G came into practice, but the condition at my hometown remained the same.
One of the faculty scolded me numerous times to go back home due to the lack of technical knowledge as there was no such advancement in the state. Due to his sarcastic comments, I felt shattered and thought of quitting, but suddenly I reminded myself that I got admission with so many
difficulties. Hence, I made
up my mind to continue my
Master’s at any cost. However,
I took this as a challenge
and burned midnight oils to
prove them wrong. I chose
antenna as my research topic
for the betterment of society
and started reading as well
as examining various books
related to it. My work was
to design an antenna that
operated for fourth generation
(4G) providing uninterrupted
connectivity, improved downloading/uploading speed, and better bandwidth compared with 3G. But do not know how? By further researching, I found a tool known as a high-frequency structure simulator on which my proposed antenna was going to be designed and simulated as well. Acquiring the skill of the tool with the help of tutorials and

training and spending lots of sleepless nights with a dream for my hometown and nation, I had command over the software. Going through many research papers, I got the idea of research writing, and finally by fighting tooth and nail, my very first research paper was published. In this work, the slotting technique was used in which bandwidth was improved up to 4.1 GHz using a parasitic patch that shifted resonant frequencies ranging from 2.46 GHz to 6.65 GHz. They could be used for ultrawide band wireless applications, specifically for WiMAX and WLAN. They also covered C bands and were versatile enough to cover some part of 4G LTE bands.
By the time my post-graduation with honors was completed, I had published seven research papers in reputed journals and one in the IEEE conference.
I was enchanted and somehow managed to convince my parents for the doctorate degree and got myself registered in most of the prestigious colleges having national importance. I got selected in most of the institutes and my interview was too good, but due to the lack of referrals, I was unable to get an entry there for Doctor of Philosophy. Due to this, I was very depressed and thought that my research was of no use as I did not have any referrals. The phrase “Hard work Pays Off” seemed to be a big lie to
me.
After a long period of 2
years as JRF in DST-sponsored project on Plasmonics in Rajasthan, I applied for the post of Assistant Professor at ICFAI University, where most of the faculty was from IIT background, and I was the only female selected with non- IIT background considering the significance of my research papers.
Article 370 was imposed in J&K State that restricted females not to marry outside the state with a fear of losing not only their rights but also the right of their wards, which changed the mentality of people and limited the reach of females outside the state for higher education.
