A big hello to all Showmen, Show Societies and
friends of our Industry
The bushfire season has certainly hit our beautiful country with all its force and fury devastating large areas of bush land, towns, some major cities; with loss of human life, infrastructure, properties and even a horrific toll on our wildlife.
When you hear stories of how the Showman of Australia went above and beyond and supported the community’s by way of lending plant and equipment and opening their carnivals to fund raise it really makes me proud to be a Showman here in our great country.
We may do it tough for a while as Shows won’t be held but hopefully the vast sums of money raised will get to the people and places where it’s needed ASAP and we can all get back to the business we enjoy - bringing smiles to the Show-going patron.
The summer carnivals are now over and the autumn runs in full swing. Extreme weather from heat to cold impacted once again on our earnings but if we keep smiling and doing what we do sooner or later we will have a win.
The Gods of our State have sent out correspondence giving us a 3 month window to get design registration on any rides that don’t have it, even though the legislation was changed in 2013 making it illegal to operate without design registration from that time.
They neglected to inform us and even kept issuing plant registration from then to now.
The 3 month window won’t help as to their own admission they have been inundated with applications and can’t process them in the timeframe.
The criteria for exemptions was black and white and most rides were compliant with the criteria, but most were not granted so we are in the process of gaining design registration which will take way more than the 3 month window.
I have been assured that we will not be shut down in any interim though. In closing I wish one and all safe prosperous trading!
Regards,
Daryl. C. Girdler President
