 Dear Members, friends and readers,
What can I say.....!
Spring has arrived and Australians should be enjoying AustralianAgricultural Shows and major events during this time. Instead,we are enduring lockdowns and restrictions in almost every State and Territory of Australia. Whilst governments impose restrictions to keep our population safe, the devastating consequences continue to impact our industry and members. Our industry has been severely impacted for almost 20 months, since this global pandemic was first detected in Australia.
Following the cancellation of the Alice Springs Show due to a snap lockdown in the NT, we were fortunate that the Royal Darwin Show could go ahead, with strong support from the community!
We left the Territory to make our way to South Australia, and just 100km out from Adelaide we received the sad news that the Royal Adelaide Show was cancelled.
I don’t think I have to state that 2021 is proving to be another challenging year!
However, despite the daily news and cancellations we continue to work hard, advocating for Showmen and women to addressing industry matters.
We are in the final stages with the NHVR in the establishment of a national notice for travelling showmen and the guidelines for the moratorium of 2021 annual guild and association fees. Updates and information will be shared as soon as possible in relation to refunds for financial members.
We continue to advocate for members in relation to vehicle registrations, seeking continued support with discounted registrations for members and amusement vehicles.
And finally, it looks like the Victorian Showmen’s Guild will be staging their 2021 Elections in the coming weeks.
The Australian Electoral Commission have confirmed the timetable, with nominations open on 28th September and closing on 12th October 2021. The
Ballot will open on 1st November and close on 26th November 2021, with results announced at our Annual General Meeting of Members scheduled for Tuesday 30th November 2021.
We are staying positive and looking forward to seeing all of our fellow Showmen in the near future.
Let’s stick together, work together and support each other in any way we can.
Stay safe and stay well.
Elwin Bell Jnr. President
