Hello to all showmen, show societies and friends of our industry,
The rent relief program has now ended, and that initiative was well received by showmen all over Australia. It certainly helped us through a challenging period.
A huge shout out and thank you to the people who worked so hard and tirelessly to bring it all to fruition, and on behalf of the members of the Showman’s Guild of South Australia I would like to
especially mention the editor of this magazine Justine Sinclair for all her efforts in bringing the rent relief program to us.
In June we had our annual general meeting and welcome two new members to our organisation namely Tia Laurie and Adam Blunden. Congratulations to you both, and we look forward to working with you in the future to help keep the SA shows great.
The Gods of the state are dragging their heels in all things paperwork with simple renewals taking months and months to be processed. But thankfully this hasn’t stopped our businesses earning, as they are allowing us to operate our attractions once paid the renewal fee and awaiting certification whilst in their system.
The drawback is not being able to supply a current certificate to any organisers of festivals or shows, which is giving us grief in that we need to prove that we have in fact paid for renewal, and with nothing in writing from the department Gods can only quote the regulations which in turn results in a series of phone calls back and forth from the organisers to the guild to the Gods. To be honest it’s not good enough and an extremely stressful way to be in business.
The winter weather has been extremely cold and wet this year, and as the spring run starts, we are hoping for much warmer climate.
The capital show season is also just around the corner so hopefully we can continue to be well supported by the show going public, even though the state of the interest rates etc. may have an impact.
In closing, I wish everyone safe prosperous trading.
Regards,
Daryl. C. Girdler President
