The Indian Finance Minister allocated more for public health than ever, raising the allocation by a substantial 137 per cent to H 2,23,846 Crs. in 2021-22 including H 35,000 Crs. for the Covid-19 vaccine.
She estimated a decline in the country’s fiscal deficit from a peak of 9.5% of GDP in 2020-21 to 6.8% of GDP in 2021-22 and below 4.5% of GDP by 2025-26.
She has provided a fiscal impulse, increasing national capital expenditure from H 4.12 lac Crs. (revised estimate, 2020-21) to H 5.54 lac Crs. in 2021-22.
She maintained the old tax rates, resisting the temptation to be populist and play to the gallery.
These initiatives will enhance India’s capacity’s to relay on its own growth engines, leading it out of economic slowdowns and towards growth and prosperity for all.
