Dear Mr. Huybrechts:
Your Medicare evaluation is attached. You might begin by checking the information on the
client data sheet on page 5 to make sure it is correct. Also, you should verify that I the
prescription drugs and dosages shown on the attachment to this letter are correct. So that
your supplemental coverage will be in place by October 1, it would be good to make your
choice of plans and to enroll within the next week or so.
Your evaluation is similar to your wife’s evaluation in many respects, and the same plan options
are compared. But the lowest-cost plan for your prescription drugs is the Humana-Walmart Rx
plan, which is different from her lowest-cost drug plan. Frequently spouses will choose different
prescription drug plans because they can save money by doing so.
In most cases the costs shown in the evaluation are estimates for the entire 2017 plan year,
even though you will be enrolled for only 3 months. Your evaluation compares four options --
three Medigap plans and one Medicare Advantage plan. After you have decided which plan(s)
you want, you can enroll by telephone. The evaluation includes the toll-free numbers of the
Advantage plan, Part D stand-alone drug plan, and the insurance companies that sell Medigap
policies in Los Angeles County.
The three Medigap plans in your evaluation
The Medigap plans that are compared are Plan F, Plan N, and Plan L. As you may know,
Medigap policies can be purchased during the first six months you have Part A and Part B
without your having to answer questions about your health. After that six-month period has
passed, however, you will likely have to answer questions about your health before you can get
a premium quote.
Perhaps the best feature of Medigap policies is the flexibility they offer. There are no networks,
and you do not need referrals to see specialists -- you will be covered when you see any
provider who accepts Medicare. That means you can go to virtually any doctor, hospital or clinic
in the U. S. and be covered. Medigap policies are nationally standardized, so that the coverage
for a given plan like Plan F is identical regardless of the state where it’s issued or the insurance
company you buy it from.
