Ernie Rapiere - I grew up in the time when
Martin Luther King Jr. had just begun his
historic non-violent Civil Rights appeal to
humanity. I witnessed the brave people
who marched and lived up to their pledges
of non-violence, despite the mobs they
faced. In the end, they rescued America
out the evils of the Jim Crowe era.
As a young man growing up in an “all-white” rural Alabama town,
I was blessed to have a Spirit-filled mother who led me to look on
those times through GOD’s Kingdom perspectives. I witnessed the
last years of the evils of Jim Crowe segregation. I remember when
Rosa Parks was leading the Montgomery bus boycotts; and brave
young men and women were risking their lives to protest
segregated lunch counters. I recall the times when police dogs
were directed to attack brave people who were peacefully
seeking the Civil Rights and human dignity that GOD demands for
every person. I also know the regrets of people who want so
much to see America heal and embrace one another with the
dignity that GOD demands.
Living through that era, etched a message of immense appeal that
I have long carried in my heart. The zeal to share that message
came alive when I met my exceptional brother in CHRIST, Jerry
Torrence, who has lived his many life experiences through an
opposite perspective. We quickly discovered that we share a
mutual dream that soon all Christians will look at one another
strictly through our respective Kingdom identities as we abide in
the reconciliation that CHRIST alone provided on the Cross for
each of us to enjoy. Kingdom dwellers see through colors.
