to now, but also the visions of the ancient prophets.
The more we know Bible Prophecy, coupled with the
anointed gifts of the Spirit, the greater will be our
discernment of false prophecies (I Cor. 12:1-4). The
Bible warns that we must test prophets (Deut. 13:1-
5), 1 Thess. 5:20-21, and 1 John 4:1).
CHRIST gave us clear instructions that show us how
to recognize both true and false prophets. HE first
warned “Beware of false prophets, who come to you
in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous
wolves.” (Mat. 7:15-16). HE then instructed how to
discern true or false prophets when HE said “A good
tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear
good fruit” (Mat. 7:18).
Thus, a true prophet will always act in ways that
display the “Fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23).
Specifically, these are: love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness,
gentleness, and self-control. CHRIST also instructed
that a “true” prophet is rooted from a good tree (the
HOLY SPIRIT) from which they cannot bear bad fruit.
In contrast, a “false” prophet is rooted from a bad
tree. Therefore, they cannot help but act in ways
that are contrary to the “Fruit of the Spirit”. In
addition, contemporary writers have published good
teachings to help us discern false prophets; a couple
of examples are referenced. [1, 2]
