Accidental Damage – Wine
Insured property (continued)
1.8 property in the possession of customers under lease, rental, credit or suspensive sale agreements;
1.9 glass, china, earthenware, marble and other fragile or brittle objects.
2. For the purpose of this Section the property referred to below shall have the meaning stated thereto:
2.1 Separators and accessories – A separator is an apparatus that is used for the purpose of separating the juice from the grape husks as well as any other materials.
2.2 Cold stabilization – Cold stabilization is the process used to prevent wine forming tartaric acid crystals after bottling.
2.3 Protein stabilization - Protein stabilization is the process whereby wine is stabilized and protein separation ceases.
2.4 Grape juice – Grape juice is unfermented filtered sweet must where fermentation is prevented by adding preservatives.
2.5 Sweet reserve – Sweet reserve is grape juice with a specific composition that is used for sweetening of wine in the premium wine classes.
2.6 Sulphurated Sweet Must – Sulphurated sweet must is used for the manufacture of concentrate to sweeten wine in the medium to lower classes off wine.
2.7 Latent defect – Latent defect is a concealed or hidden defect in a product that only becomes visible during production at which stage it is irreversible.
2.8 Serviced wine – Serviced wine is any wine that is stored and maintained at any other cellar for whatever reason.
SPECIFIC EXCEPTIONS
The Company shall not be responsible for accidental physical loss of and/or damage to the insured property as a result of:
1. loss by evaporation
2. consequential loss of any kind whatsoever, wear and tear, mechanical or electrical breakdown, failure, breakage of any other occurrence insurable in terms of an Electronic Equipment Policy, a Machinery Breakdown Policy or a Deterioration of Stock Policy or a Machinery breakdown Loss of profit policy;
PROVIDED THAT:
this Specific Exception shall not apply to separators and accessories of separators
3. wine in transit except whilst being transported by forklifts at or about the insured premises
4. theft
5. loading and unloading other than at the premises of the Insured as specified in the Schedule
6. deterioration or loss as a result of:
6.1 unhygienic and/or unacceptable preparation methods
6.2 drag fermentation
7. any loss or damage to wine intended for rebate as a result of Insured property as defined in Wine and related products point 1 and 2
8. loss or damage to wine and related products attributable to substance(s) applied to grapes prior to harvesting contradictory and not in accordance to the product directions for use of such substance(s)
9. loss or damage to wine and related products attributable to a protein – and/or cold stabilization processes.
