 Household contents
  Jewellery
When contents cover is selected, the guarantee or warranty pertaining to jewellery valuation certificates and the safe
warranty, must be stated on the schedule and mimic these product specific clauses in the policy wording. Household contents in storage
The below information will be required in order to consider contents, in excess of R50 000, kept in storage. These rules will not apply for contents in storage valued below R50 000 as our exposure would be limited.
○ the sum insured
○ an inventory of items stored. This does not need to be a professional inventory, but a list of what is being stored
○ the risk address where the household contents will be stored
○ name of the registered storage facility where the household contents will be stored
○ full detail pertaining to security measures in place at the storage facility, for example, physical security measures, access control, CCTV cameras, who can gain access to the facility, alarm with 24-hour response, electric fencing, etc.
○ whether the household contents are being stored on pallets to avoid water damage in the event of storms/ flooding
○ whether there are security measures fitted to the specific unit or container
○ the period the items are in storage
○ whether there is a possibility of spread of fire risk.
Professional movers
When a client uses a professional moving company to move contents from one risk address to another, during a permanent change of address, the following will be considered when establishing if the movers would be suitable:
○ the company is registered as a moving company
○ use of a contract and a checklist, for example how many boxes go onto the truck and how many are delivered
○ enclosed truck used to transport the contents, to protect the contents from adverse weather and opportunistic theft whilst in transit
○ secure and safe packaging of the contents, for example fragile goods are cushioned or covered with bubble wrap where appropriate.
Please note: Sasria does not provide cover for household contents in transit, even for a permanent change of address. This type of cover is only provided by a Goods in Transit policy and therefore using professional movers who have this cover in place, will be more beneficial for clients.
Theft and malicious damage
Minimum security measures as noted under the Buildings and Household contents section applies to theft and malicious damage claims.
