 All Risks
Exposure as result of the use of remote control aeroplanes/drones includes the following:
○ invasion of privacy
○ impact damage to third party property in the event of loss of control (especially loss of eyes and facial injury from the rotating blades)
○ damage to the item while in use
○ theft of the item while left unguarded.
In view of the above, Hollard will grant limited cover for remote controlled aeroplanes and drones under the Specified All Risks section. The section must be endorsed to restrict cover to theft and accidental damage only, if the policy wording is not clear. Cover while in use, for example while in flight or on the landing strip, is excluded. Personal liability for model aircraft applies only if it is used in terms of the rules and regulations set out by the South African Model Aircraft Association. Liability cover for drones while in use, is excluded.
Note: The appropriate endorsements that exclude cover for liability and cover while in use must be applied.
Special requirements
○ All Risks cover is subject to supporting Household contents cover.
○ An exact description of the individual item must preferably be given before cover starts. . If this is not provided upfront, the broker should diarise the matter and regularly follow up to obtain the outstanding information. Where relevant the make, model and serial/IMEI number of the item must be stated in the schedule. This is particularly relevant in respect of:
– electronic and photographic equipment
– firearms
– mobile communication equipment
– cell phones, laptops, iPods
– GPS
– watches (Rolex, TAG Heuer, RADO, etc.) and jewellery
○ A collective description of the same broader type of item may not be grouped together in the schedule unless the cover is provided under the *Assets out cover available on the high networth wording. You can therefore not select a combined sum insured for jewellery or photographic equipment. The items must be listed individually with their individual sums insured stated in the schedule.
The sum insured under General All Risks may not be more than 30% of the Household contents sum insured.
Note: *This requirement is policy wording-specific. The following specific items are excluded
Under no circumstances do we cover the following items under All Risks:
○ vehicles, motorcycles, motorised scooters (for example a Vespa or Big Boy), three-wheeled vehicles, quad- bikes, golf carts, trailers, caravans, hang-gliders, motorised lawnmowers, aircraft or pleasure-craft– or any of their fitted equipment and accessories
