Mr. Chancy may have been surprised to learn that he was selected
as my Distinguished Educator, yet there is no figure more deserving of the title. Four years ago, I entered the halls of Capital High as a typical nervous freshman. In those halls, I often passed Mr. Chancy. He would make a point to acknowledge me, say good morning, ask how I was doing or simply give a big smile. Throughout my time at Capital, our interactions have consisted of mostly that. But with each years’ change in hallway routes, the smiles never faded. Mr. Chancy may have never taught me how to apply the quadratic formula, but he taught me a lesson far more important: the smallest actions make the biggest difference. I always look forward to seeing Chancy in the halls, and know Capital High cherishes his vibrant presence. Even through a mask, I could still see the smile on his face.
