For Colin, it is particularly satisfying to bring a project site to completion
LEHRKIND’S | MARK STEINGRUBER
Mark Steingruber is the General Manager for Lehrkind’s Helena branch. He is a Montana native, whose great-grandparents, immigrants from Germany, homesteaded a 6,800-acre farm and ranch in Three Forks, which he helped work from his earliest
days. With some formal schooling in Portland under his belt, Mark went
to work in the airline industry for Frontier Airlines in Bozeman. He then worked for seven years for Albertson’s in Bozeman, and in 1993 when they offered him a job in Jacksonville, Florida, his love of Montana exerted its vigorous sway, and he turned
down the offer and began his tenure
at Lehrkind’s, where he has worked ever since. He has worked in retail, wholesale, sales, and as a CDL-licensed driver; in 2010 Mark was promoted to General Manager of the Helena branch. Mark is married with three children; he travels to Helena from Three Forks every day with his two sons, who work for him at Lehrkind’s. Mark runs a dog kennel on the side, and trains dogs for the AKC Hunt Trial Circuit for Labrador
LUCCA’S | FREDERICK STOUT
If you’ve dined at Lucca’s, you may be surprised to learn that its owner, Frederick Stout, has made his career as a full-time re ghter. Frederick grew up in a rural community in southwest Alaska called Dillingham, a community with no roads going in or out. For his sophomore year in high school he moved to Anchorage; he spent his junior year as an exchange student in the Netherlands, and returned to Anchorage for his senior year. Frederick earned a scholarship to the University of Montana; having never been to Montana nor visited the university, he drove all the way from Anchorage to Missoula to begin his studies, initially in Journalism, then in Athletic Training; he ended up graduating with a degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminology. While in college, Frederick joined
and nal cleanup. Due to the nature of the kind of work environmental engineers do, that could potentially be a years-long process, or in some cases, a career-long process. He appreciates
retrievers, from which he has earned several titles with his dogs. When
he’s not working or training dogs, he spends his time shing, bow hunting,
or enjoying his six grandchildren.
Last summer he and his wife nished building a cabin on their land near Roy, Montana, bringing to near-completion a massive ve-year undertaking.
Lehrkind’s was founded in 1885, when Julius Lehrkind moved to Bozeman from Iowa to brew beer.
The Lehrkind’s relationship with Coca Cola took shape in 1914 with their
rst contract for rights to distribute
its products to the Bozeman area; a contract for the Helena territory was added in 1974. Lehrkind’s boasts distribution rights for Miller-Coors, in Bozeman for the past 40 years, and in Helena for 17 years. In Mark’s rst year as General Manager, Lehrkind’s was voted the Number One Distributor for Samuel Adams by its parent company. He has also won a regional Forecasting and Ordering award, has led the business to two consecutive President’s
the Missoula Rural Fire District as a volunteer re ghter. After graduating he was hired as a Resident Fire
Fighter in Spokane County, while simultaneously working for American Medical Response (AMR) Ambulance Service. In 1998, Frederick took a job in Helena with the Fire Department; seven years later he was raised to Lieutenant, and in his tenth year he was promoted to Captain. As EMS Administrator, Frederick was in charge of training
and organizing personnel, equipment, licenses and certi cation, and for seven years he ran the regional HAZMAT team in Helena. Throughout his life, Frederick has gained experience working in the restaurant industry, starting at age 13, then in some capacity throughout college, and then in Helena with an independent caterer.
