Some may question the impact a first-grade teacher can have on their students. Mrs. Swingley is the reason that I’m here today. As a child, I struggled with dyslexia, and it caused many challenges in my academics. I struggled reading, and my penmanship was atrocious. Mrs. Swingley made learning fun and took interest in every student’s success even those who struggled. Without Mrs. Swingley, I may not have gone through vision therapy and improved my reading and writing skills. I wouldn’t have enjoyed school like I have for the last eleven years, and I wouldn’t have been an academic success.
