Random Act of Kindness
“A random act of kindness is a nonpremeditated, incon- sistent action designed to offer kindness towards the outside world. The phrase ‘practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty’ was written by Anne Herbert on a placemat in Sausalito, California in 1982.”
Many of us in the community use the free private social network, Nextdoor.com. Nextdoor is a way to stay informed about what’s going on in your neighborhood—whether it’s nding a last-minute babysitter, planning a local event, or sharing safety tips. There are so many ways our neighbors can help us, we just need an easier way to connect with them and Nextdoor has been it for many.
Like many other social networks
out there, there are negative things
that are posted. There has been
a lot of ak posted lately about
the garbage companies and the
men who work for the garbage
companies. A while back, there
was a post of a complaint that the
garbage man did not take this neighbor’s garbage and they posted pictures with their complaint. Turns out, this individual was upset at no fault of his or her own because of the way the garbage was put out to begin with. There are certain rules when it comes to putting your garbage out for the trash man to collect. There were many in defense of the garbage man stating that they disagreed with the complaint and agreed that the garbage man should not have taken the trash the way it was placed out for pick up. This leads to the story of the community coming together and showing an awesome and random act of kindness to show appreciation.
Being a garbage man/woman is not an easy job and many in our community have come together to recognize the challenges in this profession. These men and women endure very hot/cold climates, at risk for health hazards that include diseases and infections to name a few on a day-to-day basis.
