It’s time to enjoy
“SUMMERTIME”
Summer can be short here in Colorado so get outside and enjoy it.
Container owers and ower beds should be full of beauty now. Continue watering, weeding, and deadheading as needed. Your owers could probably use some slow release fertilizer with a ratio of 5-10-5. You can also use a water-soluble fertilizer in your watering containers to help replace nutrients washed out by
frequent summer watering.
If something in your pots
is not doing well, take it
out and replace it. A single
fountain grass is great in a
pot and can be enjoyed now
and all fall.
Fertilize your trees and shrubs in late July or early August at a rate of about 1 lb nitrogen/ 1,000 sq. ft. If you have already fertilized your lawn, or your trees are drought stressed, skip fertilizing. A fertilizer with a ratio of
3-1-1 or 3-1-2 is recommended. Be sure to water heavily after fertilizer application.
Mulch is a gardener’s friend! Mulches around trees, ornamentals, and veggies make for easy weed pulling and consistent soil moisture. Click here to see the many varieties and types of mulch. Mulch also adds an attractive nish to your landscape.
