Bertha, Grace (who died at age 10 in 1899, Edgar and George A. Triplett, Jr. It is interesting to note that Triplett’s uncle on his mother’s side, Elias F. Dyer, was assassinated while serving as a Probate Judge in Granite, Colorado.
Mr. Triplett led for a homestead near Castle Rock in 1879, but because of water problems he was unable to make a living for himself and his family and was forced to relinquish it in 1883.
In the 1880s when the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad Company opened their rst station in Douglas County, Triplett was the rst telegraph agent, a position he held until his health declined a few years before his death and he was forced to leave the railroad.
Triplett was active in the Republican Central Committee and served as
its Secretary. In an undated article
from the Castle Rock Journal, Triplett paid numerous invoices for printing, canvassing, cigars, meals, and horse feed. There is an interesting entry for paying “H. Metzler as a [poll?] Watcher.”
Triplett was described as a man of upright business ability and Christian spirit who had developed a large circle of true friends. His fellow citizens elected him as County Judge of Douglas County for one term. He also served as County Treasurer for two terms, and then several terms as a member of the Castle Rock Town Council, and Mayor of Castle Rockin 1893. Articles described his service to the Town as one where
“he always stood for the upbuilding and betterment of the community.” Another position that Triplett held was Clerk of the District Court, a position that he had held for several years until his death.
While Triplett was serving on the Castle Rock Town Council an ordinance was passed but reported on 20 years later! Let’s see what this is all about:
There was a column of historic interest that was published in the Castle Rock Journal on July 12, 1901 under the title:
“Interesting Information Taken from the Old Files
