cattle because
they were
afraid her bulls would jump fences and breed with theirs. They referred to her cattle as “them damn red bremmers.” Tweet simply told her neighbors that if her bulls got into their pastures, she’d buy the calves. She recalled once that a bull never jumped a fence, but neighbor Lawrence Phipps had a couple of cows get into her pasture but never o ered to let her share the calves!
Another interesting side of Tweet Kimball was her fondness of England. While living there with her diplomat husband, she met members of the Court
of St. James and learned much about British noble and aristocratic protocol. She was also friends with Sir Winston Churchhill.
“In England, such things
are slow and digni ed and done by procedures,” she would say.
The British Faire was held in Denver on June 19 & 20, 1982, and Tweet was the fair co-chairman. Apparently, there was in intricate network of people who knew each other, and Princess Anne’s lifelong interest in horsemanship may have been
the reason that Her Royal Highness the Princess Anne, Mrs. Mark Phillips, visited the Cherokee Castle on June 21, 1982! Guests arrived at 7PM sharp while the
princess made her entrance 40 minutes later, ablaze in a teardrop necklace.
Tweet loved entertaining as much as she loved her castle and ranch. For more than half a century, she welcomed a stream of
international dignitaries to mingle with members of her Colorado community. To welcome her foreign guests, Tweet’s beloved butler, John Lake, would hoist the  ag of a visitor’s home country.
One night when the castle sta  was preparing to welcome a group of British art conservators, a blizzard blew in and the group called to say they couldn’t make it through the storm. But a determined Tweet sent John Lake down Cherokee Mountain to collect the guests at Denver’s Brown Palace Hotel. It was 10PM before they arrived at the castle and 2AM
by the time John ferried them home, entertaining them with stories of Tweet and castle life along the way.
