Stories of impact
One of our patients this year found herself in need of a completely renovated roof. She discussed this need with her Faith Community Caregiver, who notified the Central Texas Coordinator. The Central Texas Coordinator knew of a program within the area that was working with low income individuals
to repair their homes — specifically to fix roofs. The Faith Community Caregiver worked with her patient in order to get the proper paperwork filled out, and the patient was able to get the roof repair she needed, free of charge!
Recently, one of our Faith Community Caregiver volunteers went to visit his patient and did not get an answer as he knocked on the door. He took the initiative to open the door and call the man’s name and found that the patient had fallen and could not get up or reach the telephone to call for help. The volunteer then called 911 and most likely saved the patients life. He was able to follow the ambulance to the hospital and sit with the man in the ED.
Several weeks ago, a volunteer was called on short notice to assist a patient in getting to the doctor for an appointment. Jesse Green, a volunteer from Greater Vision Church in Oak Cliff, graciously offered his services in order to get the patient where she needed to be. The relief and thankfulness displayed by the patient reinforced Jesse’s belief in the FCH program, and he was moved by the patient’s gratitude and optimism despite her health ailments. Though he was not able to stay, Jesse worked with the chaplain to aid the patient in getting home after her physician visit. When the Lyft driver learned of the patient’s need, he provide transportation services from Baylor Scott & White to Pleasant Grove at hardly any cost at all. The patient called the Faith Community Health chaplain later to say, “Baylor Scott & White was like an angel.” She loved both the volunteers that were involved with her and she appreciated the company because she often gets lonely. The patient’s doctor expressed his appreciation for FCH and the effort to get his patient to her appointment. We were so pleased to see how we could help the patient and ease her care.
