Family:Boraginaceae
Symphytum is a genus of numerous species of flowering plants
S.asperum S.bulbosum commonly known as Comfrey (Not to be confused with the wild com-
frey in the genus Andersonglossum) All plants in this genus are toxic
and have a medium to high toxicity level. Symptoms of toxic poisoning,
for both humans and animals, could be abdominal pain, loss of appetite,
lethargy and jaundice and severe liver damage (possibly cancer) Skin
contact with the stiff hairs on the leaves can cause severe skin irritation.
S.tuberosum S.officinale Eating only a small amount of these plants can trigger poisoning. So it’s
important to school children on the danger they pose and never to put
any part of them near their mouths. Closely supervise pets to ensure
they never eat or chew any part of these plants and always wear gloves
when handling them.
Family:Asparagaceae
H.hispanica H.mauritanica Hyacinthoides is a genus of around 11 species of flowering
bulbous perennial plants. All plants of this genus have a low to me-
dium toxicity level. Symptoms of toxic poisoning, for humans and
animals alike, can be severe abdominal pains, nausea, vomiting, and
diarrhoea and in extreme cases could ‘possibly’ result in death. Skin
contact with the sap of these plants can cause skin irritation and
contact dermatitis. If eaten in large amounts, these plants can be fa-
H.italica H.lingulata tal. Also, their bulbs are highly toxic and very dangerous if eaten. If
you have these plants in your care or know of their whereabouts in
the wild you should warn children of the danger they pose and en-
courage them not to handle them. Supervise your pets, making sure
they do not eat or chew them, and always wear gloves when han-
dling them.
Family:Fabaceae
C.scoparius. C.multiflorus
Cytissus, is a genus of numerous species of flowering decidu-
ous shrubs or small trees, some known as simply Common broom.
All plants of this genus are toxic, especially their seeds, leaves, and
stems, and have a low to medium toxicity level. Symptoms of toxic
poisoning could be intestine discomfort, dizziness, high blood pres-
sure, nausea, muscle tremors, heart failure, and circulatory weak-

ness. In general it’s safe to touch these plants, but you should al-
ways wear gloves when handling any plant that has the potential to
harm you. Children should be warned about these plants and pets
kept from eating or chewing any part of them.
