Family:Alstroemeriaceae
A.Angustifolia A.Aurea
Alstroemeria, is a genus of numerous species of tuberous flower-
ing plants commonly called, Peruvian lily. All plants of this genus are
toxic and have a low to medium toxicity level. Symptoms of toxic poi-
soning, for humans and animals, can be mouth irritation, vomiting,
diarrhoea and digestive irritation. Skin contact with the sap can cause
blisters, itching, and crusting. Sap getting into the eyes will cause pain-

ful eye irritation. Always wear gloves when handling these plants.
Warn children of the danger they pose, and if they should touch them,
to wash their hands immediately. Pets should be kept away from them
and never allowed to eat or chew any part of them.
Family:Araceae
Philodendron is a large genus of numerous species of plants, many
still undescribed. All selected species of the genus are toxic and have a
P.Davidsonii P.Ornatum low to medium toxicity level. Symptoms of poisoning in humans and ani-
mals; are painful swelling in the mouth, lips, tongue, and throat, difficul-
ty swallowing, vomiting, diarrhoea and excessive drooling. Handling the
plants can cause severe skin irritation, and should its sap get into the
eyes it could cause redness, swelling, pain, and a burning sensation.
Many of these plants are grown as household plants and should be kept

at a high elevation, out of the reach of children, or in a restricted area
where children and pets cannot easily access them. If this is not possible,
it should be explained to children the danger these plants pose and they
should be encouraged to stay away from them. Pets should be kept away
from them and never allowed to eat or chew any part of them. If you fail
to wear gloves when handling them, then you should always wash your
hands afterwards.

Pieris is a genus of 7 species of flowering shrubs. All plants in
this genus are toxic and have a low to medium toxicity level. Ingest-
ing large amounts could invoke symptoms of toxic poisoning. For
humans and animals that could be excessive salivation, vomiting,
abdominal pain, increased respiratory rate, seizures, convulsions,

toxic and when handled could cause skin irritation. Always wear
gloves when handling them. Warn children of the danger they pose
and keep pets away from them and never allow your pets to eat or
chew any part of them. If you suspect toxic poisoning, get medical
attention immediately.
