The Sixth Graders waved at parents and friends through the windows of the gigantic bus, shouting goodbyes and
excitedly jumping in the seats. This was the scene as the girls departed from El Jardin to Camp Owaissa Bauer.
After a 45-minute ride, the bus arrived at the camp. Unpacking heavy belongings and sleeping bags was tough
work. There was much groaning and sweating, and there was still more to come. After meeting the friendly
rangers, Linda and Barbara, the girls felt like they were at home. The group set off to Royal Palm Visitors Center
for some information before departing on the Anhinga Trail, where there were some interesting events Some of
the students actually saw an alligator eat a small animal. It was a good experience to see how the food chain works
in the Everglades. The
students returned to
Camp Owaissa Bauer to
complete chores and eat
dinner. The adults then
took the girls to a serene
spot for a campfire. As
everyone ate toasted
marshmallows, some
students put on a talent
show. At night, sleeping
on hot, sticky cots made
it difficult to slumber
peacefully. This was just
the first day on the
Everglades trip, and
there were still more
adventures to follow.
Everyone returned to
Carrollton tired, but
content to have
experienced such a
wonderful trip.
