Mrs. Maria Hewett came to Carrollton in
1992, and for nine years made many significant
contributions to the school. Mrs. Hewett began
as Assistant Director of Grades 7-12, the position
she held from 1992 until 2001. During that
time, she worked as the head of Junior High,
transforming it into a very special place for
Seventh and Eighth Grade students.
Students who experienced the Junior
High with Mrs. Hewett remember it as a stepping
stone from the Intennediate to the High School; a
place where we fomied new friendships, learned
from an exceptional group of faculty, and were
granted a little more independence.
In 2001, Mrs. Hewett became the
Director of Grades 7-12, the position she held
until April 2003. She treated the High School
students with the same respect as the Junior High
students. The Class of 2003, along with all the
classes that have been influenced by Mrs. Hewett,
express a deep admiration and appreciation for her.
Christa McAuliffe said, “I touch the
future. I teach.” During her years at Carrollton,
Mrs. Hewett did just that: she touched the lives of
her students and changed them as well as their
future for the better.
