Dear Mr. Spinelli
Wow! You are an awesome writer. Oh sorry I did not introduce
myself. My name is Gabriela Lucas. I attend Carrollton school of
the Sacred Heart. I read your book “Maniac Magee" for summer
reading and you do not know how pleased I was when I read it. It
inspired me about how blacks and whites came together and how
Maniac, the boy with no family and no place to live, was the one
to make them unite. Your book is on the top of my best book
list. I can't wait to read more of your books!
I thought that the book was fantastic. The ending gave me a
little problem because I had a question. When Amanda and Mars
Bar came to offer Maniac, to live with them and he did. Whatever
happened to the segregation between the blacks and the whites?
The vocabulary and vivid words you used to describe everything
was extremely fantastic. It was also a little sad in the middle
of the book when Maniac's life went down the drain and he had
nobody to count on. Then he met Amanda. Amanda gave him a home,
a family, food, and most of all she gave him an address which is
something he had been longing for a very long time.
Thank you, for giving me this opportunity to read your book.
Where did you study writing? What age did you know you wanted to
be a writer? Those are some questions I want to ask you. I can't
wait to read more of your books and write to you again!
Sincerely,
Gabriela Lucas
