        The Duchesne Oak

To honor and acknowledge the nurturing spirit o f St Rose Philippine Duchesne, Mr.
Gray’s Intro to Photography Class spent an afternoon photographing the Duchesne
Oak. This oak tree, with all of its protective and life-giving qualities, stands as a symbol
of peace, contemplation, and safety to all who stand beneath it. After studying the
(often Cubist) photographic works of David Flockney, the class digitally assembled the
images they took to create a new perspective of the tree and to answer the question
of how they could push their photography in new and interesting directions.
