Little Rebecca
Early in the school year, Damon McMillan gives presentations to students
from the Primary School through the High School about his project
SeaCharger - an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) which successfully
crossed the Pacific from California to Hawaii on solar power alone. Inspired
by his work, the Carrollton community is working toward designing a solar
powered and GPS navigated vessel, the Rebecca II, to commemorate
the bicentennial of St. Rose Philippine's journey to America on the original
sailing ship, the Rebecca.
Created by Intermediate students, “little" Rebeccas are being test
launched in the El Jardin pool which is a perfect metaphor for the Rebecca
II, which once built, will be launched from Carrollton's bayfront and cross
the Atlantic to the port in France from which St. Rose Philippine embarked.
