At the end of High School Prize Day, Bianca Sprou)' IS read the following to Sister Cooke and
Hannah Joseph ' 18 presented to Sister Cocke, the work of art pictured on the feeing page.
The Ninth and Tenth Grade Introduction to Visual Art students studied the
symbolism of concentric circles and artist Wassily Kandinsky's spiritual approach
to making art. He believed that abstraction expressed feelings and allowed
for a spiritual connection to be made in the language of form and color. In the
words of Kandinsky-
Art is born from the inner necessity o f the artist in an enigmatic,
mystical way through which it acquires an autonomous life;
it becomes an independent subject, animated by a spiritual breath.
The classes wanted to give you this collaborative painting, Sister Cooke, so
that you, being a contemplative, would be able to meditate on the piece,
knowing that each student painted concentric circles representing God's infinite
nature. We made this for you using the color palette of our Carrollton uniform.
The piece is entitled, The Colors of Carrollton. We give this to you with love
and gratitude. May the love you feel from our community envelop you as you
embark on the next chapter of your life.
