Remembering Mother Barry
Mother Agnes Barry, 86, founder of Carrollton Schools in Coconut
Grove and Princeton, N.J., died Saturday Sept. 18,1979 in Albany, N.Y.
A native of Rochester, N.Y., Mother Barry entered the Society of
the Sacred Heart in 1912. During her years as vicar of the society, she
founded the tw o schools. The Miami school was opened in 1961 in re
sponse to the influx of Cuban refugees.
The Spanish-style mansion that houses the school was built in 1919
and is now part of the National Register of Historic Places.
Because of her we are all here, and I am very grateful that Rev. Mother
Agnes Barry gave me the opportunity to be at Carrollton.
Now is the time to say "Au Revoir", will miss you all.
