adventures friendship nature and asking big questions. Ms. Perez enlightened us with her candid messages of perseverance and self-acceptance as she spoke about her writing
process and how her books take shape. Julianna Xydas, Sixth Grade, earned the honor o f introducing author Celia Perez by creating her own informative and eye-catching ballet- themed zine. ^
For her debut middle grade novel, The First Rule of Punk, Ms. Perez was awarded a Pura Belpre Honor for Narrative, Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor Book, Kirkus Reviews Best Book o f the Year, School Library Journal Best Book o f the Year, and NPR Best Book o f the Year, among many other accolades.
Peter H. Reynolds, creative visionary and award v^lnning author/illustrator, spoke to students about tapping into their imagination through his books which include: TheDot,HappyDreamer,TheWordCollector,andhisnewestbook.BeYou! Itisajoyfulcelebrationofthewaysthateverychildisuniqueandspecial,and reminds readers to "be your own work of art.'
