the Miami River area, created an architectural 3D model and presented their ideas to a panel of judges at Florida International University.
Carrollton's Stellar Participation in the 2019-2020 Fairchild Challenge
Students demonstrated their different talents in support of environmental stewardship by participating in the different challenges presented by Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. There were about 3 0 0 schools from all over South Florida and beyond participating in the Fairchild Challenge this year. In the High School category, out of 55 registered schools, Carrollton was recognized as one of the top-scoring schools overall, and was presented with the Bronze Award and a cash prize o f $ 5 0 0 .0 0 to support and enhance environmental activities at the school. Because Carrollton was awarded "The Fairchild Challenge Award" for the fifth consecutive year, we were also recognized as a "Fairchild Challenge School of Excellence."
Mr. Michael Gray was awarded 2nd Place in the Educator Challenge: Fairchild's Finds. Mia Barsky 22 participated in Challenge I : Conservation Photography —Developing a Call to Action through her photojournalism entries. Cecilia Izquierdo 21 and Maria Jose Gonzalez '21 received 2nd Place in Challenge 2; Fairchild's Rare Plants. Debate team students Shanon Feerick-Hillenbrand '22, Isabel Alia-Arias '22, Catalina de la Pena '22 and Sofie Mortensen '22, guided by Ms. Randall, competed in Challenge 4: Environmental Debate Tournament, IB Design Technology students, Isabella Delionado '22, Emma Beharry '22, Margarita Miyares '22, Sophia Garcia '22, Lourdes Mendoza '21 and Mariana Gianulis '21 created a dish for NASA for the Challenge 5; Green Cuisine - A Satellite Dish.
