Students learn about the different types of clouds and model what they've learned with shaving cream. In
celebration of the 100th day of school, First Graders dress up like 100 year old ladies. Inspired by the African
folktales of "Anansi the Spider," students create their own spiders out of crackers, pretzels, cream cheese ana
raisins. As part of the “balls and ramps” science unit, students create their own ramps and test different tacto s
that contribute to the speed of the ball. In preparation for Thanksgiving, First Graders work with their moms to
weave placemats for the special day. Professional quiltmaker Mrs. Velarde, grandmother to Isabella Velarde,
visits the First Grade following the book reading of “The Quiltmaker’s Journey." Students search the ca^ p u s for
a hidden gingerbread man after reading the story, “The Gingerbead Man.” Students visit the annual Carrollton
Bookfair.
