ABOUT THIS BOOK
The theme for the 2009-2010 edition of Yggdrasill, "Values," was inspired by the dedicated work of the SHCOC (Sacred Heart
Commission on Goals) Committee which for the past two years has engaged the Carrollton community in the Self-Study process.
This included a year-long self-reflection process, the Self-Study document (excerpted throughout the yearbook), the SHCOG
Team Visit and their Review, and the creation and implementation of the Action Plan. Through this process we, the Carrollton
community, have deepened our understanding of, and respect for, the Five Coals of Sacred Heart Education. These Goals help us
develop and exercise thoughtful and proper values in all that we do in our lives.
Most great paintings begin as a sketch, a simple black-and-white drawing. The artist sketches the lines and fills in shades of gray
or values, then adds color to the image. Think of the Five Goals as the underpinning, the "value" drawing of our portrait of
Carrollton. Together, we fill in our sketch with the colors of our living and learning, and the fulfillment of our Sacred Heart Goals.
This artistic theme is illustrated throughout the yearbook in the interplay of black-and-white "value" drawings and photography,
with the vibrant colors of daily life at Carrollton. It also refers to how our values are the manifestation of the Five Goals, which
complete our lives in faith and love, learning, giving, building community and making wise choices.
Yggdrasill is a giant ash tree in Norse mythology said to support the world and the universe, to be the creator of humankind. It is
known as the tree of life. At the base of Yggdrasill's great trunk lie the wells of wisdom and destiny. It stands as a symbol of strength
and stability. Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart creates women of strength - women of confidence and conviction in their
beliefs. Like Yggdrasill, Carrollton graduates draw from the wells of wisdom and destiny to help shape their futures and lead lives
in accordance with the Five Coals of Sacred Heart Education. We are grateful to the late Catherine Baxter, RSCJ, who so aptly
named our yearbook, Yggdrasill.
