2. Making the difference to future brains: BCEs/PCEs
▪ We cannot change children’s pasts, but we are very powerful to change their
futures.
▪ Research indicates that the more BCEs and PCEs a child enjoys, the more likely they
are to be successful, despite experiencing Adverse Experiences – these BCEs and
PCEs act as buffers and mitigators of the impact of ACEs.
▪ In other words, how well we secure PCEs and BCEs for children will shape their
future brains and lives.
▪ Keeping a tight focus on these BCEs / PCEs – assessing how well they are met for
children and helping children to plan (not doing a plan to children) how these can be
met even better for them is vital for building better future brains.
