Introducing the Concern
▪ Only start a Coaching Conversation when everyone is calm.
▪ The VITAL thing is for the young person to feel you’ve ‘got their
back’ (that does not mean you agree with what has happened).
▪ Introduce the issue in a matter-of-fact and non-critical way.
Using the phrase ‘I noticed’ can be a helpful and focus on difficulty
rather than being bad or naughty. E.g.
“I noticed you found it tough to stay calm when you were
given that homework yesterday. What was going on for you?”
