4 Help children understand that, when our 5C Needs are not
met, our brain senses danger.
The brain then reacts with a threat response – even when there is not a real danger (like thinking the teacher does not like us).
Under threat, our brain gets ready for fight or flight or freeze. We become more alert, rigid, impulsive and emotional. The energy-greedy pre-frontal
cortex turns down; it is harder to focus, to process and remember information and to stay calm.
