       STAGE 8: PROACTIVE ACTION: TEACH TOOLS, MODELS & EXECUTIVE FUNCTION SKILLS

       (BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE)
       KEY GOALS: Staff take responsibility for the progress of children’s conscious awareness of their response
       patterns and for the Executive Function skills of children within their class (as they do for progress in maths
       and English). They are proactive in addressing missing skills so that children learn and achieve their very best.
       We always:
       A. TEACH THE KEY MODELS such as 5C Needs, DOSE, EF Skill Scales, Affect Scale and emotional literacy, ‘Prickle
       Habits’, Positive Positions’, Growth Zones, Circles of Control & ‘Thought Swap’) so that children gain a keen
       awareness of their own responses and are empowered to manage these positively. (See resources section for
       slideshows for each of these models).
       B. TEACH KEY TOOLS such as the ‘10 Point Response Plan’, ‘Prep4Best, ‘SpeakUp4Better’ and ‘Working Out
       Windows’ to support children in becoming successful problem-solvers and positive self-advocates.
       C. TEACH KEY (EXECUTIVE FUNCTION) SKILLS: teach and practice Executive Function skills systematically through
       the year, drip feeding regularly during other subjects. (See resources section for the ‘Executive Function Series’
       which provides information on how to teach these skills).
       Track children’s progress in this area as rigorously as Maths, Reading & Writing.
