      Not all threat responses are treated with                               empathy

      the same level of compassion, despite
      the fact that they are all driven by an
      unmet need and missing skills.
      Responses where the child appears to
      be frightened, sad or withdrawn tend to
      be treated with the highest levels of
      compassion.
      Often, less empathy is shown when the
      child appears in control and enjoying
      themselves, or when their actions cause
      fear or disgust.
