The Coaching Conversation is a PLAN, not just a CHAT
▪ A chat is not enough.
▪ The child needs to think through carefully
how they will be able to manage next time
in a way that will be good for everyone.
▪ The plan may involve scaffolds or supports
they think will help.
▪ The child will really benefit from a quick
rehearsal – role-playing the situation so
they can practice putting their plan into
action.
▪ Some children need LOADS of rehearsal to
be in a position to put the skill into
practice.
