Page 27 - Course 4 Skills & Strengths Part 3 Brain Building
P. 27
What does this all mean to our practice?
CHANGE TAKES TIME
We need to teach about Brain Building so everyone knows their difficulties do not
1
have to continue for ever.
2 We need to be patient and not expect unhelpful habits to change after one chat.
When a child is struggling with a skill, we need to work with them to create a plan,
2
and teach them the skill.
We give them lots of opportunity to practise the skill and rehearse ots of different
3 scenarios so they have a chance to try out the skill in an environment which is
supportive and low in stress.
4 We need to give people the chance to practise and build Executive Function skills.
We need to help children understand about Brain Control (Executive Function
Skills) and Brain Building so they start to believe that they can do better and
5
succeed well in life. Things do not have to stay the same; they do not have to have
a lifetime of ‘behaviour management problems’, as they often assume.
