The problems with behaviourism



























      1. They do not work all of the time or with all children (and lose potency over time).



      2. They only work whilst the adult is in control and monitoring – they do not teach independence.



      3. They work well in the short-term but do not get to the root of the problem.



      4. They do not teach the long-term pro-social and pro-learning skills needed to do well



      5. They are stressful for both the adult and the child – trying to stay in control and worrying about


            losing control is stressful for everyone involved (even the compliant children).


      6. They can fragment positive connections between adults and children (a vital Benevolent


            Childhood Experience), further exacerbating the child’s struggles.
