DELIBERATENESS (managing impulsivity)
I will just
think this RED AMBER GREEN
through first.
SELF-CHECKING/MONITORING
I can check regularly for accuracy as I go along with a task.
INHIBITING DESIRE TO RETURN TO COMFORT ZONE/TOLERATING GROWTH&DIFFICULTY
I can tolerate the unpleasant feeling of challenge and difficulty in a task to keep going until it is complete.
I can tolerate the unpleasant feeling of repetition or lack of interest in a task to keep going until it is complete.
I can start less interesting parts of a task first and avoid the urge to start with interesting less important parts.
INHIBITION: VERBAL
I can hold the desire / urge to make a noise, share my thoughts, opinions or ideas and can wait to take my turn in a
conversation.
I can hold an idea or thought and build on the previous speaker’s comments rather than changing topic.
INHIBITION: PHYSICAL
I can hold the desire / urge to do something and have ways to manage it rather than acting upon it immediately
(e.g. I can hold the urge to buy something, leave my seat, move around, touch something or someone).
I can stop and resist the urge to take part in exciting yet ‘risky’ behaviours.
INHIBITION: GENERAL
I can wait to take a turn in a game, task or conversation. I can hold the urge to interrupt, push in or start.
I can be deliberate about the things I say and do and make sure it is helpful to me and others before I go ahead.
I know when I can be impulsive. I watch out for these triggers and get ready with my strategies to avoid them.
