5. PERSPECTIVE TAKING
I interpret what I see and hear accurately based on evidence. I do not over-generalise by saying things like
“They all hate me!” I’m stupid” or “This always happens to me!”
I can put things into perspective e.g. I can see a phone breaking isn’t as serious as the death of a pet.
I can imagine and think of different possibilities. I can think hypothetically.
I can think of different reasons for someone doing something or something happening e.g. I can think of
different reasons why my friend did not say good morning to me.
I can imagine how things may have been for other people; I can see things from different viewpoints and
perspectives (see Chair Swap model).
I can change my position or views on something when I am given clear information and evidence.
I can look at situations from lots of different angles.
6. SHIFTING FROM ONE THING TO ANOTHER (SET SHIFTING)
I can switch from one task to another. I cope ok when asked to move on to a different lesson, subject, task
or part of a task e.g. shifting from a practical task to listening.
I can manage physical transitions well e.g. moving from one place to another for a lesson or activity.
I can manage people transitions well e.g. adapting well to working with a different person or group or
switching from talking to my friends to an adult (which may need me to talk or act in a different way).
I can follow an instruction, starting or stopping a task when others do, even if in the middle of something.
I can shift my thoughts away from an area of interest or desire when asked to focus on another subject.
