The Building of the Brain
The human brain develops in a sort of ‘back to front’
way.
The last part of our brain to
develop is the area at the front
of the brain; its fancy name is the
‘pre-frontal cortex’. It is not fully
developed until we are around 25
years old!
This area of the brain is in charge
of Executive Function Skills.
The areas nearer the back of our brain develop These are more complex thinking
first. These areas are in charge of skills such as co- skills such as planning and
ordination (moving our body) and vision (seeing things). decision-making.
