P. 29
What can we do about this?
When a child’s (or adult’s) threat response is too easily activated and they keep
reacting in fight, flight, freeze etc., it makes life jolly hard for those around them.
It is pretty rotten for the child (or adult) themselves too!
It can also have a terrible impact on their self-concept: they
can end up feeling bad or naughty.
What can we do to help?
1. Teach people about the threat response
2. Help people learn ways to reduce the levels of stress in their body each day
3. Help people to know their 5C Needs and prepare for them to be met well
4. Help people notice the early signs of stress in their body
5. Help people to become skilled at emotional regulation so they
can stop and communicate their needs rather than chuck their
prickles or run from them (prickles = the unpleasant feelings of stress).
