1. The problem with traditional control approaches is:

❑ They are transitory - just like a speed camera, they can work very well

in the short-term yet do not work so well when the control is removed.

❑ They do not work all the time or with all children.

❑ They do not identify what is stopping the child from doing well

- the unmet needs and missing skills.

❑ They do not build skills and independence – helping the child to

manage better increasingly over the long term.

We believe it is better to educate children to be able to do the right

thing and to want to do so.

2. Control approaches are like speed cameras: they work well for the

moment, but their effectiveness is transitory. They provide an external motivator

but do not help build the skills that help the child do better.
