GOAL A          CHANGE THE NEUROBIOLOGY BY HELPING CHILDREN TO:

           Step 1     Help children to understand and prepare to be at their ‘Brain Needs Best’:


                      Help children to understand their 5C needs and know the physical, sensory, emotional and cognitive needs to be at their

                      ‘Brain Best’.

                1b    Give children time to prepare ahead of time and let people know what they need to be ‘Brain Best’

                1c    Help children practise letting people know their needs positively, ahead of time.


                      Help children improve their neurobiological balance so they FEEL better and can DO better through
           Step 2
                      increased resilience of stressors:
                2a    Help children understand the neurobiology of met and unmet needs – in the moment and over time

                2b    Find helpful ways to get their Daily DOSE.
                2c    Take action to keep stress levels from rising too high – reduce stressors

                2d    Help children find daily Stress Busting activities that work well for them

           Step 3     Help children to learn ways to manage unmet needs so they can stay in control and bounce back quickly:

                3b    To get skilled at noticing and describing their ‘affect’ (energy and pleasant and unpleasant feelings).


                3c    To know their stress response (prickle habit) patterns and recognize them before they get too big.

                3d    To get great at working out which 5C Needs are behind their pleasant and unpleasant feelings.

                      To practise strategies for tolerating the unpleasant feeling of an unmet need for long enough to take control. Tolerance
                3e
                      control takes practice.

                 3f   To trial and then practise ways to self-soothe and feel ok again. Help them discover which strategies work best for them.

                3g    To practise shifting into Positive Positions until they get really good at it


                3h    To become confident at letting people know their need positively – rather than ‘chucking their prickles’ (see also 1c).
