Toxic Stress
▪ If stress chemicals are released too often and the
body does not have time to recover, they can
become set permanently on high.
▪ This is called ‘toxic stress’.
Toxic Stress
▪ When this happens, the body stays on high alert.
It becomes difficult for the person to feel calm
or to focus properly.
▪ The stressor may be too big to manage,
even if the person has quite strong skills.
They may react in big ways to very little things.
