Page 4 - Course 3 Neurobiology Part 5 Getting Brain Fit
P. 4
We can get Neurobiologically Brain Fit by:
1. Increasing the levels of ‘feel good chemicals’ (DOSE) in the body by:
a. Focusing on the power of relationships in changing a person’s neurobiology: making sure we all use
this power to help others feel better, not worse.
b. Getting our DOSE in helpful and safe ways.
2. Managing and reducing stress levels in the body in proactive, helpful ways:
a. Prep4Best ahead of time so our 5C Needs are met well and we reduce daily stressors.
b. Getting great at noticing and describing (with a range of emotional language) our affect so we can
let people know and take action early – before stressors become too big.
c. Getting great at communicating the needs behind our affect.
d. Planning daily Stress Busting to keep stress chemicals as low as possible in the body.
3. Recognising when stress leads to growth and learning to tolerate the unpleasant feeling
of Growth Stress
a. Recognising the difference between growth, tolerable and toxic stress.
b. Learning to ‘catch the prickle’ and take control of our Danger Brain.
c. Increasing tolerance control so it gets easier to manage the unpleasant feeling of Growth Stress.
d. Building self-soothing supports and strategies to speed up emotional regulation.
