Spring Migration: Michigan’s Colorful Invasion of Songbirds
presented by Seven Ponds Nature Center
Saturday, March 12, 1:00 p.m.
Join Seven Ponds Executive Director, Daryl Bernard, and discover the amazing world of the spring songbird migration through Michigan. The migration begins subtlety
– male Red-winged Blackbirds arrive and begin staking out territories in marshes and along roadside ditches, American Robins show up in backyards, and Tree Swallows brave the early spring temperatures to claim prime nesting areas. The invasion picks up in April – Eastern Phoebes, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Chimney Swifts... Come mid-May our forests, parks, and backyards are alive with colorful birds
as hundreds of thousands of neotropical migrants push through Michigan, many of them bound for boreal forests of Canada, far to the north.

Stories: Preserve
Your Life Stories
Wednesday, March 30,
7:00 p.m.
Presenters Susan Carroll and Gigi Bott VanderWeele will explain the value of recording personal or family stories, how to convince others to share, and writing interviewing techniques. VanderWeele, a former Detroit Free Press reporter,
and Carroll, a former human resource professional, help individuals or families
preserve life stories with beautiful heirloom-quality hardcover books. Participants that attend this workshop will be inspired to record their own family stories to be enjoyed for generations to come. The workshop will also highlight the many unexpected benefits to sharing stories, how healing and therapeutic it can be and we emphasize the need to take advantage of time with loved ones especially elders, before it’s too late.
