P. 23

Third: Associative property

If more than two numbers are added, we can add them in
                                   any order.

                If a , b and c are three numbers ,
    then (a + b ) + c = a + ( b + c ) = b + ( a + c ) For

                                    example,
        5 + 10 + 25 = ( 5 + 25 ) + 10 = 30 + 10 = 40
         5 + 10 + 25 = 5 + ( 10 + 25 ) = 35 + 5 = 40

The subtraction operation has no identity then:
        6 - 0 not equal 0 - 6

Subtraction is not a commutative operation because:
        5 - 3 not equal 3 - 5

Subtraction is not associative operation because :
        10 -7-2 not equal 10 - ( 7 - 2 )

                                                                  23
